A belief is a thought you like having. If you like having it it must be of some benefit to you, right? What I have discovered is that your beliefs do 3 things: 1) either make your life better 2)protect you from what you fear 3) you can use them to prove how bad your life is.
What this could look like in your business is statements like “my clients will be angry at a price increase” “I cant find the right team members” “no-one does it as good as me” “I will never be able to get off working on the floor” “salon businesses dont sell”. The list goes on forever! These are all beliefs you have constructed over time. We can sometimes hold onto these beliefs because they keep us in the world we are in right now, even if it isn’t ideal we know what suffering we are up for. The prospect of shifting these beliefs can be more scary than keeping them, this is the way a limiting belief can serve you and keep you “safe”. Change can be daunting!
For example the belief: “my clients will be angry at a price increase”. By living with this belief you stop yourself from possibly charging what you are worth – which canned be linked to a self worth issue deep inside, by holding this belief gives you proof you are not worth it, you can also use it to justify why you don’t have “money” in your business. Having the belief that a client will be “angry at you” keeps you safe because as long as you don’t change the price the clients will like you. So as long as you allow these limiting beliefs to be part of your narrative you don’t have to experience change and what shifting this belief might look like. Because the suffering we know is more comfortable then the unknown. Any of this making sense? Do you want to change?
